    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Purple Emperor was in Northrepps yesterday evening. First spotted about 1800 hrs it remained feeding until 1915 when it flew off north. Unsurprisingly no sign this morning. An amazing garden tick and a lifer for me. see @Norf_Viz_Mig on Twitter for more pics and video.

Best place to visit right now?

Joe, I would suggest it would be a prime time to hit Titchwell at this time of the year, should be lots of waders, gulls and duck to see with chances of skuas off the beach. Your other options at this time of year generally would involve the same sort of habitats, so why not go to Titchwell...

    Norfolk birding

That sounds like it may have been a Common Buzzard (depending on the size) seen them on the heath there quite frequently. Additional clues are in the habitat (Buzzards like to disappear into woods, Short-eared Owl much less likely so, occurring on saltmarsh, vast open heathland and moors) time...

    Lens selection...Canon, Tamron, Sigma?

If you do get the 400 f5.6, one word of advice, get plenty of CF cards cause you're gonna get a lot more 'keepers' ! (Especially shooting Tv, as advised by Roy)

    Aylsham/bure river

Blickling Lake maybe worth a regular visit, and there is a nice walk behind Burgh-next-to Aylsham church along the river for warblers, Little Egret, cuckoo, Kingfisher etc. Andy

    External mic with Remembird

I am considering an external shotgun mic to pair with my Remembird 2. I have narrowed my options down to Rode NTG2 or the Audio-Technica ATR6550 ( my options are heavily price based!) has anyone got any experience with these combinations or could offer any alternatives? Thanks in Advance Andy

    Norfolk birding

I had a look today around lunch time. Be aware that the clearing on the west side of the main road is private property (I thought it was part of the Country Park) I was duely ejected by the land owner who was on site at the time (he was polite and I was respectful) Speaking to someone who has...

    Catharus Thrush Central Florida

Apparent complete eye ring led me to think Swainson's, but I have virtually no field experience of Catharus thrushes, and the angle is not great either. Any suggestions (with reasons for) gratefully received. ATB Andy
