    65ED where to buy?

I'm chiming in a bit late here, and I do see another scope's been bought, but I did want to post that I found Adorama is still selling the 65ED IIa scope only for $479.00. I picked one up a few weeks ago after a near fruitless search, as it seems the 65 is only being sold with the eyepiece...

    Spring Migrations in Southern FL

Thank you so much, Carlos. great info. I just found out we may be going down earlier than the Spring. We may be going the 1st week of March. Are these spots still active at this time? I am also interest in year round/ migrating shore birds. Tom

    Spring Migrations in Southern FL

I was wondering if there were some hot spots on either coast for catching flocks of birds migrating north, and when the best times might be. Thank you, Tom

    Canon S95 or Nikon P300

Thanks, RJM, but I have a DSLR ( Canon Rebel XT- 2 actually), with an array of lenses, and I don't know if I want to start another glass garden.:-O Thank you for that news on RAW and DS- that makes alot of sense. And, of course, I woke up this morning as undecided over this as much as I...

    Canon S95 or Nikon P300

Thanks, guys. I am using a Celestron Regal 80 ( traded in the Regal 65 for more light). And yes, IQ is my major concern, and I am leaning toward the S95, especially with it's larger sensor and complete manual control. Having dealt with mostly DSLR cameras and even P&S ( A590- SX110) with manual...

    Canon S95 or Nikon P300

I've read so many reviews and comments on both that I am exhausted. What's the general consensus here? I'm looking to get one or the other. Thanks, Tom

    28mm threaded lens or beyond...

Does anyone know what P&S cameras are out there with a 28mm threaded lens? I used to have a Nikon CoolPix 4500 ( now defunct) that had a 28mm lens that threaded directly onto an 18mm fl Eyepiece. Just wondered if I could still use this with another setup- say a 28mm to whatever mm threaded...

How normal is this for a scope?

I just paid $370 for the Celestron Regal 65 ED, and I love the scope. I did have some issues with the focusing knob being a little sticky, but I returned it and one arrived with relatively smooth focusing. http://www.celestron.com/c3/product.php?CatID=88&ProdID=564 I got mine from B&H Photo...

How normal is this for a scope?

Hello NLC, I'm new to the Bird Forum, and have been asking several questions about spotting scopes. I do, however, have some long experience with both Refractor and Reflector telescopes, and can answer your question with some basics. What you have is called an 'achromatic' refractor scope...

    Celestron Regal Issues....

Well, thanks to all who have replied. I thought this was a dead thread. I wanted to add that today I went into a BassBro Shop ( Oh, how I love that store:t:) where they have several spotting scopes you can look thru out to their nature walk. EVERY SINGLE SCOPE I looked through- 5 maybe- had some...

    Celestron Regal Issues....

Well, I got a third one today. Same issue. The image moves a bit as I turn the coarse focus knob. Now Celestron says their sample does the same.:eek!: Have no idea what to do at this point. I really like the scope, but I'm concerned about future problems.

    Celestron Regal Issues....

Thanks Ivan, I did call Celestron's Tech Dept today and they did confirm that this was not supposed to be happening, So I'll be sending both back and taking it from there. Tom

Is this normal for a spotting scope?

I'm sorry for repeating the theme of an earlier post, but perhaps I will get a wider response from a variety of spotting scope owners by rephrasing the problem.... I have two samples of the Celestron Regal 65, and in both the image shifts in an arc consistent with the movement of the coarse...

    Celestron Regal Issues....

Thanks, Ivan. I saw Jupiter as well last night. Stunning and sharp. Yes, A tiny bit of CA depending on where it's viewed thru the objective. On the two samples I have, the collar is extremely tight on one ( the same that has a sticky focus knob), so much so that the suction creates a near...

    Celestron Regal Issues....

Thanks again, Gwen. Well, I'm definitely seeing it in both of my samples. When I focus the whole image moves. It all ends up sharply focused, but it is a bit strange. I guess I can take this to be a defect in the design, especially since it was not noticeable in any of your 3 scopes. Tom
