    Opticron MM4 60ED or Kowa -602?

There is a very good review of the Hyperion Mk IV at binomania from Italy. You can translate with the Translator at the upper part of the site.

    Opticron MM4 60ED or Kowa -602?

Hello Paul, you can read alot in my describing in the german forum Jülich, Bonn. There are also links to the decision of the tripod and other issues. My Diascope 85 is my azimut. Hallo mayoayo - the Baader Mk IV can be used in the MM4 with pure disconnecting the black 1,25"-barrel? I think of...

    Travelscope help needed

I've only the comparison of the MM4-60 with the DiaScope, but I think the v2 is a very good performing zoom, with a tight 15x (20x leads to the same field, so I use 15x only for the bigger exit pupil if needed), and a wide 45x. Obvious I'm an opticron fan-boy, but keep in mind that whilst...

    Travelscope help needed

You can search in the Jülich-forum for my experience with the MM4-60. (Use the search form there) I've read, that you prefer the MM3, that's ok, but look for my advices for the tripod. If you have one use it, and make your own experience, which magnification range you prefer. My suggestion is...

Spotting scopes + Gitzo Series 1 tripods?

I'm using the 2532S, it's a systematic without center column, so it's more rigid than the mountaineer. With the Opticron 60 it's a fine combo with less weight than the 85-Diascope on a 3530/2380. But with more than soft wind, it's shaky, the 3530 is better because of the weight (5.4 vs. 2.7). I...

    Rugged MM4-60

Here is a good ending story about a Opticron-fail… :eek!: It's well known, that optical well designed optics is mostly also mechnical very sturdy, so that a bump or low touch down seldom gets to a optical damage. (And this is shurely also a part of the price tag of Zeiss, Swaro &Co.) The last...

Does anyone still make a low power eyepiece?

It depens of your scope, which eypieces can reach focus (in infinity). And if an adapter for 1,25" is connecting with your scope. Some TeleVues or Baader Morpheus can e.g. work for reaching a big exit pupil. On my Zeiss Diascope I took a TV Plössl 40mm for watching Bubo bubo youngster near...

    Eyepieces for Fujinon Super 60?

In a catalogue from Martin Birkmaier (†) of Intercon-Spacetec, Germany (2002) the Super 60A is listed with four fix-focal-length ep (25x-52°, 30x-69°, 50x-50°, 80x-56°) and a zoom (20-60x; 34-66°). I think the real mag with the 60 is less, because the bigger cousin 'Super 80' has the same...

Swaro PCT tripod vs Gitzo GT3542L Mountaineer Serie 3

Your longest lens is a 800mm (:eek!:) - but calculate the focal length of your scope with 20x, 30x, 50x (depends with the focal lenght of the scope). You can reach 2500mm just by twisting your zoom-eyepiece. :t: So, if your Gitzo come the the limit, try a Berlebach… ;) strong stands Manfred

    Canon Switzerland / Service experience

If it's only the 'cracked protective glass at the front of the right objective tube', why they did change the 'optic-block'? I'm using the 10x42 since 2008, and were shure that a scratch or other defect of the protective glass will lead to a change only of the damaged protective-glass-piece...

eyepiece adapter 1.25 for spotting scope Vortex Viper New Generation?

If you like TV-exepieces, it's good to look in their eyepiece-table. The critical values are B minus F: for my DiaScope85 all of my TV with B - F <= 0.95 reaches infinity, e.g. the 'uncritical' Radian; also Delos should work. (The Nagler 17 T4 reaches objects to 500m, but sadly not infinity…)...

    Opticron or Hawke?

I don't know about the Hawke, but it is bigger and heavier than the MM4-60. If portability is key, try the MM4 - I bought it with the v2 for a light setup beside the 85mm-DiaScope. Optically is very fine, compared with the big cousin, but mag ends with 45x. If you want more try the new 77mm, but...

    Pentax papilio ii eyepiece rattle...?

Have you found out the reason for the rattle? With the veryveryvery little amount of translatoric movement of the optical-glassplate in front of the objectives I cannot detect any amount of optical input in daily use. It rattles only by very fast shaking in the hands, and not in normal use. Manfred

    Pentax papilio ii eyepiece rattle...?

I'm using my Papilio 6.5 II for the search of crickets and tetrigidae, by scanning the ground while slendering. It's wonderful for this using - and it rattles. But I've just realized this form your post… thought it was perhaps the neck strap - but without the strap it also rattles ;-) The...

    Canon 10x42L IS WP eyecup

Yes, this looks very astonishing but - what were you doing with this fine piece of glass? I'm using my 10x42 since 2008, and nearly every day for several hours and you see scratches and used parts at the outer shell - and it's lying without any cover (except the one for the eyepieces) on my...
