    Need help with several IDs

I think you may also have a Forster's Tern in the group of Royal's -- fourth bird from the right side of the image. Smaller, yellow/orange legs, black-eye patch (?).

I am quietly trying to forget them and the Illiadopsis!

Yup, agree on the Steppe/Common buzzard -- I was following the taxonomy of Clement's. I must also agree on the pipit--I was being an idiot. Tawny == rare uncommon migrant. Still I think it smacks me to look more like a Tawny than Grassland based on what is visible in the photos... Had a hell...

Yes, we saw no Magpies in that area. How would you distinguish Hooded Crow eggs from Cuckoo eggs?

A very common bird but I thought it was a nice urban shot.

John, I've been digging around the net some more and I think you are correct. I found these photos of Magpie eggs in a nest and they seem very similar: http://www.arkive.org/magpie/pica-pica/image-A7132.html What led me to Cuckoo was this photo of a parasitised Hooded Crow nest...

Thanks, could be. I had considered that but it seemed too densely speckled -- based on photos of Magpie eggs online. (I unfortunately do not have an egg ID book.) Jon

Hello all, Was birding near Arisaig Scotland this past weekend (18 April 2010). While lunching in the glen south of Strath of Arisaig (near Glen Cott) we noticed an egg (see attached photo). It was approx. 4-5 cm long (3 5p coins). Found near oak trees. My guess is a Cuckoo egg. The speckling...

Comment by 'Guest' in media 'Buff-necked Ibis'

Cheers, scottishdude! I don't think the shot is particularly good -- a bit fuzzy and the colors a bit flat -- from a photographer's perspective, but they are simply amazing birds so I thought I would share.
