I have the Nikon EII 8x30 and it is an easy view. I also have Kowa 8.5x44 Genesis XD and those are an easy view as well just not as wide as the Nikon.

My Nikon EII 8x30 seem to my eyes equally as bright as my other 8x42 (or 8.5x44) binoculars so I can't agree that the 42MM objective has a real advantage in decent daylight situations.

I can speak to this as I own both the 10x42 HR WP and the Nikon EII 8x30. The Nikon EII 8x30 is just as sharp as the HR WP, and it seems to me to be brighter and more transparent even with the smaller objectives. Obviously better glass. The wide FOV is really nice and very easy to get used to...

That's an IPA from the same brewer. It's not as dense as the ABA.

The Kowa 8.5x44 Genesis are a fine binocular and an absolute steal at that price.

This probably doesn't fit your parameters, but an Opticron HR WP 8x42 is tough to beat for the price and multiples of that.

I received the 8x42 HR WP I ordered and found everything said about them here is true. A really nice Japanese made porro at a bargain price. Very nice.

For anyone in the US that might want a pair of these, I found that this shop has maybe a dozen 8x42 HR WP in stock and a few of the 10x42 HR WP. I made sure to post this AFTER I ordered mine. :) http://www.enerdynet.com/optics/

The Kowa Genesis are built like a tank.

I am very happy with my EDG 85 angled and the fixed 20x and 30x eyepieces. I also have the 20-60 zoom but I much prefer the view from the fixed. They have a wider FOV.

Try a Bino Bandit.

The field of view on the 20W eyepiece compared to the zoom at 20X is much bigger. The 30W FOV is about the same as the zoom at 20X.
