Black Billed Magpie: Amazing that such a conspicuous bird could hide so well in plain sight.

Announcing the July 2011 theme challenge - Camouflaged Birds

Help Ian! Sorry, but I keep trying to load my picture up and it doesn't seem to make it. I will get the message saying the upload was successful, but I don't get the second screen that asks location, date, etc., nor does the photo load into the photo competition even though I use that category...

    Snowball in the Bush

I have to say, Magpies are not generally my favorite bird. They are very common around here and so conspicuous that there's not a lot of "thrill" attached to seeing one. And I've wondered how something so conspicuous can come from nature where everything blends so nicely. Until I...

Thanks. What great shots - its like a puzzle to find the birds. Going to the past galleries is good advice... I'm there. C

    Need Advice

First, let me start by saying I'm new to forums, fledgling at photography and not very confident when it comes to competitions. I'd like to submit a photo in the next birdforum photo competition but I struggle to pick the right photo, as well as judge it critically. This month's competition...

    Maine, USA Bird ID Help

Actually, this just reminded me of the year the Carolina Wren found its way into the vent to my stove fan and made a nest. I quit using the fan until it moved on. It was a more unusual bird for our area, and sounded so pretty, so I just avoided cooking fried foods.

    Maine, USA Bird ID Help

I've had same problem with some finches that nest above my front porch lights (dual) each year in CT. The type of lights they are don't produce a lot of heat, so that doesn't discourage them. Every time we open the front door I worry we disturb them. Sometimes we get a little dive bomb, other...

Thank you. I'm learning about all this a bit at a time... although fairly clumsily.

Thank you. I'm learning to use my camera, and trying to be a better picture-taker. But I'm finding there's a fair amount of luck involved.
