Thanks, given the weight of the spotting scope, and camcorder. I opted to use an existing tripod which can bear the load. I also added some weight (cinder blocks) hung to the legs of the tripod for further stability.

After a consult on the DPReview.com Nikon forum, the D90 might be a simpler solution along with Nikon's Camera Control Pro software. You can even connect/view via a WiFi connection (using Nikon's WiFi camera adapter).

Hi Rick, yes, but the D90 (or D700) costs so much more but it IS a great excuse for a new camera |=)| and I also want a live output so I can monitor on a larger LCD TV hence the camcorder.
My eyes are not as sharp/good as they used to be in my younger days :-O
