Dead Battery Syndrome in D90 or D300

I was wondering if Nikon has fixed the Dead Battery Syndrome that plagued Nikon D300 users up thru 2008. Also has anyone had a DBS problem with the D90. I have been thinking about upgrading my D70s but not if DBS is still a problem. Thanks, Dan

    Which lens for camera ?

May I suggest a 150 Sigma macro 2.8 if you mostly take plant pictures. It is a dandy lens, sharp and fast. Dan

    Which lens for camera ?

Here's my opinion on the subject. A D300 will give you considerbly more useable ISO which means you can up your shutter speed for poor light. Between the 70-300 VR and the 300 F/4 no VR, the F/4 is better glass but you have a fixed focal length and need to shoot at least at 1/500 because of no...

    Birding around Missoual

Well this reply is only a couple years too late but oh well. The Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge between Florence and Stevensville is the best wildlife refuge I have ever been to. Late September is a little late though. Many of the summer birds will already be gone but it still should be pretty...

New Member - just ordered FZ18

I have an FZ18 and it got me started with bird photography. Stick to the optical zoom and you will get impressive pictures. This camera was my first digital and I am 64. At first it was daunting, but I learned a little at at time. Buying this camera was the smartest thing I have ever done in...

Which is best new camera or new lens?

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll go for the 300mm f/4. Too bad they went up $200 and are hard to get. Dan

    teleconverter question

Whoops. That Sigma is a 150, not a 105. Dan

    teleconverter question

Thank you. That is an interesting site. I was thinking I should have been more specific on the lenses. The Nikon lens would be a 300 f4 AF-S and the Sigma lens would be a 105 f2.8 Macro. Thanks, Dan

    teleconverter question

I am pretty new at this digital stuff so I have a lot of dumb questions but here goes. Can a Nikon lens be used successfully with a Sigma TC and can a Sigma lens be used with a Nikon TC? I'm thinking of a 1.4. Thanks, Dan

Which is best new camera or new lens?

Here's what I am wondering though. My D70S is really only good to about 400 ISO whereas a D90 I am guessing might be good to 800 ISO. Also there are 6 megapixels compared to 12. Under ideal conditions the 70S would be just as good. Shoot under ideal conditions my Panasonic FZ18 is just as...

Which is best new camera or new lens?

I put this question somewhere else and I think it should be here. Sorry about that but here it is again. I have a Nikon D70S with a 70-300 VR AF-s lens. It takes good pictures but not great. I want pictures that pop and are sharp. Would I be better off to buy a new body say a D90 or a new...

Which is best new camera or new lens?

Hi. I have a Nikon D70S with a 70-300 VR AF-S. It takes adequate pictures but not great ones. I want pictures that pop and are sharp. Would I be better off to invest in a new body, say a D90 or a new lens say a 300 f4 AF-s? Thanks, Dan

Thanks to both of you. I was in South Carolina last October. Beautiful place. I've been trying to get my wife to move there ever since. No winter. I have a good friend who lives in Spartanburg. Dan

I have no idea what I'm doing on this forum. I'm not sure I can figure out how to post or reply. I do however enjoy birds and know something about them. I live in Northwest Montana and would enjoy hearing from anyone who knows any good spots in the area for birding. One can never have too...
