    UK - Kent - Elmley : Bunting

Thanks all. It was the eyebrow and streaky back that made me think it was not a Reed Bunting.

    UK - Kent - Elmley : Bunting

Hi, Bunting seen today at Elmley Nature Reserve. Other Reed Buntings seen and easily identified, but this bird, seen twice, is quite different. Lapland Bunting? Sorry for poor quality photos. Thanks in advance. Derek

    Carrying Camera and Binoculars

Hi, You might look at the Cotton Carrier - or actually the off-brand copy for 1/5th the price. Like this one: http://opteka.com/mch25.aspx Costs about £30 in the UK. I've been using this with the camera weighing about 3kg (with lens) for about a year, and it's the best way, I reckon, to carry...

    Android Birding Apps

I'm waiting for G-Bird to come to Android. Was told "soon". It looks very impressive on that other phone, and the website has examples of what it is capable of. g-bird.org.

    Holiday to Poole, Dorset.

Just come back from a weekend at Arne - highly recommended. Sika deer are plentiful and active. There are two loop walks in different directions covering field, moor, forest, "sea" and wetland habitats.

    White-eye? Dorset UK

I might be going mad - is what I saw even possible? At Arne in Dorset on the south coast of the UK this weekend. In a tree full of little birds - tits, etc - I spotted what I thought was a Goldcrest, based on general shape and size. When I got my 'nocs on it though, the little bird quite...

Nearest place to West London to see Hobbys'

Hi Bardbirder, I live near the Ricky lakes. Ok - I haven't been out every day, but I haven't seen any hobbys around at all this year. Only saw one here in May last year. Not to say they are not around. There seems to be a dearth of prey like dragonflies this year though. Stockers Lake is...

    Tablet Computers

Hi Mike, I got my Nexus 7 the day before I went on hols to Scotland. It was only on the last day of the trip that I was able to get a decent enough internet connection to download any birdie-related apps tho. Anyway this is another +1 for the Nexus 7. Form factor is good, as I was able to...

Comment by 'Guest' in media 'The Dive !'

Good catch. Would be interested to hear your technique for getting this shot. I was trying similar, but it was near impossible to follow the diving gannet, and the judge when it's about to hit the water.

Lost chick - NW London, UK

Hi, I ran over and almost stepped on a young bird with the wheelie bin last night. Felt obliged to take it off the dark path and away from the cats, so it slept in a box in the kitchen last night. Now it's back outside where parents will hopefully find it. Seems quite lethargic to be a...

Canon 100-400mm IS - How do you carry it around?

I use something similar to John P. There's no point leaving the camera in a bag when photo-hunting. You might want to look up "Black Rapid R-Strap". I think Optech have a similar, cheaper arrangement.

    microsift security essentials virus

I've installed the update, and it took a while to sort itself out. Suspect it might have done a full scan in the background, which is why the computer was sluggish for while the hard drive was thrashing... Seems fine now.

    Elmley Marshes, Kent, UK

Hi everyone, There were a bunch of Oystercatchers on the ridge, so I was thinking this might be one of their chicks? But aren't Oystercatcher juvs much darker? Could this is a Godwit chick? Or something else completely? As you can see it is about the size of an Oystercatcher, and has a...
