Red Kite I suppose you could say this is unconfirmed but my older brother says he is certain he saw a red kite today along the same stretch of coast as the geese I saw recently heading westwards towards castlecoohill being mobbed by crows. At first he presumed it was a buzzard but all the...

Leg ring photo Here's that pic I said I'd try to get. It clearly reads Z7 The goose I saw yesterday had orange rings. Magaret, I'll email that guy and see what he says.

Brent Geese Lots of brent geese down the road from me on the beach.(in between termonfeckin&clogherhead). I notice one or two of them have their legs ringed. Managed to see that on one of the geese it has the letter F on its left leg and the letter U on its right leg. Thought this might be of...

Just a quick query. Saw a bird last week that I didn't recognise -a raptor. Saw it flying, well actually gliding slowly overhead. It wasn't hovering. All I can say is that it was fair bit bigger than a kestral and it had a wedge shaped pointed wings that were black at the tips when looking from...

At this time of year the newly fledged willow warblers look very yellow. Wood warbler has a very distinct delineation between yellow on throat and upper breast and white below. with willow warbler the yellow extends all the way down th breast/belly. A wood warbler would be a good record. Yeah...

This weather is great for throwing up the unusual. Never thought i'd be enjoying a cup of tea whilst looking out the window at this bird. I have this guy feeding in my garden now most days. Poor quality pics I know.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed a big jump in buzzard numbers in the last year or two. Great to see I suppose. Where I live(between termonfeckin&clogherhead) they're getting really common. The minute I step out the back door each morning I hear them before I see them. Always 5 or 6 circling...

Thanks for that info. What I didn't realise is that in my case the sparrows have laid and are now rearing a brood of their own in the housemartins nest. The cheek of them!!

House martins evicted. A few weeks ago I was delighted to see housemartins returning to the apex of my house and repairing/rebuilding their nest from last year -and a fine job they did of it too. All was going well and the female had moved in and I presume she was sitting on the eggs. Then...

Had a short eared owl today on Baltray G.C. A first for me! It was hunting in full daylight and not paying a whole lot of attention to myself and a mate. It was no more than 50 yds away and flying very slowly, only 2 or 3 feet above ground before diving down on prey. Lovely to see. Saw it...
