    Olympus SP-320 ???

Anyone tried this one? Someone on rec.birds thought it might be worth a look. Thanks

    Digiscoping with an Olympus sp-320

I just heard someone suggest the SP-320 might be worth a look. Do you currently have a scope available? I would like to know how it looks. As far as the angled body you can find opinions either way. If you look up into trees you will find the angled body requires less bending, although some...

    Nikon 9xx/4500 - Won't Turn Off - Erratic

Well, that freezing is probably quite a different problem. I think the switch problem always shows up as the camera remaining on or turning on when the switch is turned to the "off" position.

    Nikon 9xx/4500 - Won't Turn Off - Erratic

My 990 started acting up a few weeks ago. At first it wouldn't turn off. Then it would turn off but would periodically turn itself back on. I asked around and was referred to this webpage; http://www.nightskyevents.com/Nikon950repair.html Aftering obtaining some good quality plastic-safe...

    what all do i need

I'd recommend Andy's page as a good intro. The most popular scope for this activity is the Swarovski 80. http://www.digiscoped.com/Digiscopingindex.html

    Manfrotto 190 tripod & new 701RC head

Difficult for me to justify an expensive tripod when I have no real idea what stability improvement it would provide. I wish they would rate each of these tripods with a stiffness spec... a standard torque applied to the mount with the resulting deflection angle then measured...

Ziess Protective Cover For Diascope 85 T* FL??

That sounds like an excellent (and reasonable) price. I think I even found their mailorder webpage... http://www.creedmoorsports.com/Scopes_Extras.htm Now which size (they offer several) is the optimum for the 85 ? Also would such a cover interfere with my ability to rotate the scope?

Ziess Protective Cover For Diascope 85 T* FL??

I think Skua quoted me a price on a Zeiss case, but I decided to wait and might consider constructing something myself. I don't travel much and don't need anything pretty.

    simple connecter

I made a plastic disc that is similar to Andrew's "digicap" but fits inside the eyecup, but I would not trust a friction fit disc inside an eyecup to hold the weight of a camera. I am unfamiliar with the Swaro eyecup so maybe what you are describing is somewhat different. It seems a shame to me...

    Support for scope

You ought to find this old message you mention so we can figure out what you want. A balance bar does not give your scope "more support." It merely balances it. The only things I've heard that can give your scope more "support" are a heavier tripod, a bag of rocks hung on the tripod, a heavier...

    Televue astro scopes for birding

If I remember correctly the only downsides are that it's heavier, isn't waterproof, and won't focus as close as most popular birding scopes. But it is designed and calibrated more precisely to support much higher magnifications. Dave

    Shipping a Scope?

Yep Henry, I'm going to give them a chance. I received the scope shipped by UPS in the manufacturer's box, but the support engineer said UPS shouldn't have accepted it that way, and it sure seemed minimal to me. Maybe rough shipping is the basis of my problems. The manufacturers box is pretty...

    Shipping a Scope?

I'm just curious if I am on track here. I'm thinking that to safely ship a scope one would want a box with at least two or three inches of foam isolating the scope from the gorillas on the outside of the package. Sound safe? Thanks, Dave

    Zeiss scope repair

I'm still unaware of any scopes in my area although I'm sure I could eventually track down an astronomy club. I would hope that Zeiss would keep a few known good scopes in stock for test purposes if they plan to support these in the US. Dave St. Louis 8/31 Update - They sent me a new scope...
