thanks.
I was undecided with #2, the double square spot and triple spotted clay are next to each other in my book, do you mind me asking how you differentiated?
#4, i'd looked at the early thorn and decided that the wings were too uniformed and rounded in my photo so discounted it.
last weekends light trap was successful again, with over 30 different species I think.
I am struggling a few of them though - could you confirm the first 2 and help with the remaining 3?
#1 bright-line brown-eye
#2 triple spotted clay
cheers
Thanks again, much appreciated. I really need to get hold of a micro moths book although I may well frazzle my brain trying to search through that as well.
these are the ones I am struggling with.
I've tried with the first 2,
#1 plain golden y
#2 marbled beauty
but the last 3 I am really struggling with.
Thanks in advance.
as an aside, I'm amazed at the amount of other insects that arrive in the trap, i had at least 2 caddisfly species and a...
Hi,
a couple more from last weekends light trap, I have had a go at some, others I'm struggling with.
my thought:
#1 Gothic
#2 light emerald
#3 snout
#4 willow beauty
#5 smoky wainscot
As always, I appreciate confirmation or pointers on where I've gone wrong.
Thanks with the help so far. With regards #5. It was approx. 14mm body length, 25mm wing tip to tip, resting as in the photo. I have added a 2nd photo which has a little more detail. Could it be a grey pine carpet?
another 2, the first was attracted to the light trap and I think is a form of carpet, but not certain?
the 2nd i noticed at dusk yesterday and i guess is a micro moth? possibly Anthophila fabriciana
I'm struggling with a few more attracted into a light trap a couple of nights ago and wonder if you would be able to help?
my thoughts.
1. purple clay
2. currant pug
3 and 4. no idea??
thanks again in advance
3 moths for ID sheffield uk
Following on from my last post, where I have hopefully identified 5 of the moths I caught in my light trap last night, I am struggling with the identity of another 3. Would you be able to help? Moths are a steep learning curve for me.
Having had a 2nd night using a light trap, and using the advised waring/Townsend field guide I think I have identified half of the species I caught. Would anyone be willing to confirm this or tell me where I have gone wrong.
1. Small magpie
2. Peppered moth
3. Heart and dart
4. Silver-ground...
