    We don't see a lot of Trumpeter Swans in my area, and this is only the second time we know of that they've nested in MD. As luck would have it, they chose one of my secret(ish) spots, and I was the first to see and photograph them!

    This bird is one of two Trumpeter Swans I've been watching since they appeared about a month ago. They're rare here, and awesome in any case. They've been commuting between two local ponds, and the geography makes any flight shots difficult. So, I staked out the destination pond this morning...

    I was observing a large flock of Sparrows, when some atavistic nudge told me to look up. I was able to remain quite close for several minutes. He was observing the sparrows as well.

    "... tapping at my chamber door."

    There's a great park only a short distance from my home, but if you go, beware. A loud tapping sound indicates a Cardinal (Occasionally a Song Sparrow) has found your mirror.
