In post 2 i think Michael A was responding to a request from Andrew Kinghorn not reporting a sighting? Anyway as you say it dont matter one jot either way, i just thought it odd you asked him to explain himself...
Ian.
Michael A's ealier post states he does not report sightings online (this may or may not be true, i don't know, i don't even know the guy), he does not say he never goes online or uses the internet! Or have i got this wrong?
Ian.
Was surprised that the Hartlepool White-throated Robin was accepted as the third for Britain following records from Calf Of Man 83' and skokholm in 1990. Didn't think the Isle Of Man/Calf Of Man were included as far as British records are concerned? Sorry If i've got this wrong!
Cheers Ian.
The Cleveland list stands at 369 as of Nov 2011. This includes the 3 new species seen this year (White-throated Robin, Sandhill Crane and Pallid Harrier) and Siberian Stonechat (BOU up-grade). Not bad for a fairly small recording area!
I also read it the way you did. Happy to be wrong though...
Interesting that Cabot's Tern is already on Cat A of the British list, with a (little) bit of digging i think this is due to a ringing recovery of a bird at Newhouse Wood, Herefordshire in November 1984? Anyone got any more info...
With regard keeping lists "clean" it would help if people could at least tick the correct species on the correct list! What i mean by this is if you take a look at the BOU British list on BUBO and check for American herring Gull you will find several birders have listed an Irish bird, the same...
I seem to remember the news breaking of this bird and we all thought it would never be seen again but a little while later news came through that it had been seen again! I think we were seawatching at Hartlepool at the time and it was agreed if it were seen again we would go for it and go for it...
What i find with Birding world these day's is some issues don't seem too relevant or interesting at the time, but in a few years time or even sooner (with any luck) i'll find myself refering back to some artice i hardly even touched upon at the time. I found myself checking a five year old...
This book on ebay has a reserve set on it and i'm sure the lowest reserve price you can enter as a seller is £50...still cheap if £250 is the going rate?
Cheers Ian.
Maybe check out "bubo.org/listing for a whole world of lists and listing inc BOU, UK400 Club and Birdwatch variations of the British List. I'd add a link but i'm not good at this sort of thing!
Cheers Ian.
