In my recent (& not very extensive) experience, Birdguides are not reliable. My latest experience, I reported the Great White Egret in Bowthorpe via my iPad (using their App), which gives an exact grid reference via GPS, when I was actually looking at the bird. Birdguides turned this into an...

    celestron ultima 80ed

I have a black 100ed & the Baader made a huge improvement. If you are planning to use the t-thread with a T2/SLR it doesn't work too well, though.

    Pentax Q

I didn't notice that. 1/1000th sec at iso 200 at that distance is quite something. From comments elsewhere, I think that lens is 30 years old & not well regarded. If the Q produces noisy pictures that would show up on the kit lens?

Broken Zoom vs Mirror - Opinions/advice?

Hi Joe, sorry to hear about your zoom. I have a Tamron Adaptall F8 500mm mirror lens, about 22 years old I think. They turn up on EBay quite often for approx £100. I think it pretty good. Do a search on Flickr to see what you think. If you have a Nikon or Pentax, you can use catch-in-focus to...

    Recording software (Mac)

OpenOffice is a free & pretty good M/soft Office clone. Available for Windows, Mac & Linux. The main worry with a small computer shop is that they might not be there a year later. Do you have direct experience of weeks waiting for repair from a major manufacturer? Just interested.

Confused - need advice on DSLRs

Hi Sean Have a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/pmunks/ Catch-in-focus is a menu selection & only works with manual-focus lenses or lenses with a manual/auto switch. When selected, if you press the shutter button, nothing happens until the camera detects something in focus (this depends...

Confused - need advice on DSLRs

These are the purchases I made & how much I use them: Pentax K-x Pentax 18-50mm zoom. Very cheap if bought as a kit. Not for bird photography but so small & light you wont notice it in your pocket - just in case you see a nice view. Pentax 55-300mm - £275. great lens, don't use it much since...
