    Birdguides new system

I like the new Android app as the gallery has gone and there are notifications in Android (although currently you have to setup sending a email to yourself for each bird you want a notification about so you get both). They are going to improve this implementation shortly apparently. I agree the...

    Yellow patch on back, UK

Hi, any thoughts on this picture taken yesterday near Guisborough? Superficially resembles Yellow-rumped Warbler but a few things dont look correct. The size was thought to be chaffinch size or maybe a bit smaller https://twitter.com/NeilSimms1/status/577749381094481920

    Barbed Wire on Nature Reserves.

The RSPB has it all over their Saltholme reserve next to where this happened and deer hang out. There is enough problems in the area with poachers without the rspb adding to their woes

    Scottish pine martins

I was at the Glenmore Cafe in March and they had not had a pine marten there for a while (I didnt see one in 8 nights in the bar/cafe) but I was told that they were hanging around the bins at the Glenmore Lodge just up the hill. I tried there once but there was building work going on so had no...

    Swarovski customer service - excellent!

After about 10 years my Swarovski 65HD's focusing had stopped turning smoothly sometimes. I returned it to them and received it back last Friday just over 2 weeks since I sent it to them including Easter. Its now as good as new with everything cleaned and a couple of worn bits replaced. Superb...

best smartphone bird news service for uk birder?

It may depend on what phone you have and how fast you want to get any news. The birdguides app is poor for Android as it does not give you notifications when important news arrives so you have to keep looking. Rba let's you choose what notifications you want so you will get news quicker so this...

    More suppression in Cornwall

I've just remembered we also had some problems here a few years ago with some reports from a "Will Robinson". I might be worth a look at some of his posts if you can find them as I think he posted a couple of times on this forum complaining about people commenting on his sightings. Some mention...

    More suppression in Cornwall

For those who missed it the name of the person who owns the phone number that called in the hoaxes about the Sooty Tern etc is now well known in the North East. Last I heard he is now claiming his cousin spoofed his mobile number and made the calls http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=215941

Opticron discovery wp pc 8x32 vs Viking navilux 8x32

I am thinking of buying one of the above two to leave in the car and for general birding while out walking to dog. I would therefore welcome comments from anyone who has compared them and especially the Opticron as I cant find any reviews of them
