  • yellow-bellied sapsuckers finally coming back to my yard, i never see them in spring and summer months! saw two today.
a brave little male rose-breasted grosbeak has been coming to my feeder... brave because i was about 6 feet away from it. i'd only seen a grosbeak one other time and it was 8 years ago, so i'm pretty happy!
woke up this morning to the sound of rain, and lightning... and then i noticed a bird call! it was too overpowered by the thunder and rain and it made me worried a little, but i found no injured birds this morning. i hope he comes back so i can learn what he was.
just now a pileated woodpecker finally returned to my yard. she was flying around the trees at the side of my property. i saw her face towards the tree that gives me the best view for a photo. my neighbor started up his lawn mower. it flew away. all i want is a good picture of this woodpecker.
i just watched a downy, a hairy, and two red-bellied woodpeckers all sit at my feeder and eat. and then a blue jay came, scared them off, and flew away. gotta love nature.
