I have to admit, I really enjoy watching these every morning and evening. I took a video this evening around sunset on the porch as the two of them circled around (presumably upset that I was near their spot).
Interesting because the nest from last year (seen in the pictures) actually fell down in the winter. The two new ones there right now have been perching in that spot for the past few days at night, and I would imagine may make a new nest.
I'll try to take some better pictures for this year.
Last year in the spring it seemed like there were at least 5 young ones crammed in there.
Another two came back in late fall and nested in the same nest, but I think only 2 survived that time (multiple ones seemed to have been kicked out of the nest).
Thanks ovenbird!
After doing an image search of barn swallows, you seem exactly right.
Is it safe to assume that the new one is possibly one of the offspring from last year?
If so, I find it fascinating that they would come back to the same exact spot. These birds like to "dive bomb" towards...
Last year almost to the day, I had these two little ones nest under the awning on my front porch. Someone told me they were Purple Martins, but after looking at pictures of Purple Martins, it just doesn't seem to fit.
Well, they are back (like I said, almost to the day). Here are some pictures...
Just wanted to introduce myself, you can call me JJ...
Just learning about different birds in my area, and will post some photos soon with some questions on bird identification.
Thanks!
