new guide of the birding spots of France

Please see my comments between the *** "As a conclusion, we believe that Mr Williams' comment essentially show that we've made it to our aim : providing a general overview of the country with synthetic information to the benefit of birders willing to a first outlook into the country, and...

new guide of the birding spots of France

I don't think it's a case of up to date info, there is plenty of that available on the Faune websites around France. I honestly rushed out to buy this to see what it would say on the places, I know very well, the region where I live (Lorraine), and on the the region where I've been on holiday a...

new guide of the birding spots of France

If the totally inaccurate info on my region is continued throughout this book then I wouldn't bother. Little crake is a former breeder on my local patch and is a regular spring and autumn migrant. Little crake was suspected of breeding there and there hasn't been one single record there for at...

    Black-winged kite Lourdes Airport?

I wouldn't be remotely surprised, their stronghold in France is in the SW and they are spreading slowly north and seemingly increasing at a steady rate as you can probably imagine from all the records in the netherlands etc etc. I've even found one where I live near Verdun in November 2009 so...

    Wintering Wallcreeper

Last March I saw an adult male Wallcreeper in a quarry near commercy in la meuse, Lorraine, North eastern France. It has been seen again yesterday and at the weekend. Presumably that means it will spend the winter there. If anyone wants details, please get in touch

    Frejus

Looking on Faune PACA, the Slender-billed Gull colony at Hyeres is doing well this year. Last year they abandoned and were difficult to see, this year quite easy. Check out the LPO pages for Hyeres too, there are guided walks onto the 2 different salins that are well worth doing.

I second that, hire a boat and see Griffons and Crag Martins.

    South of France

I posted this in the Frejus thread too which could be of use. The salins at Hyeres should be reasonably good at this time of year. Plenty of Flamingos, good chance of Slender-billed Gulls and passage waders should just be starting to move through in reasonable numbers, Marsh Sands, Wood Sands...

    South of France

I was at la crau in June and didn't see Little Bustard at the Peau de Meau reserve but I did bump into an english birder who told me the fields south of Aureille were good quality grassland that held LBs and good numbers of Rollers.
