I don't know from shinola when it comes to binos,

It seems like every hobby-obsession I get drawn into I find that there is a level of cost and quality that I had no idea existed. When I first became interested in watches I believed Rolex was the last word in quality, but found there were brands-manufacturers like Patek Philippe, A. Lange &...

Zen ED1 or ED2 10x43 help on hunting bino

Why aren't you still using the SE's? The Zens are waterproof, and give me just a little more light in the dark corners. The SE's give a better 3D image, and I like the feel better, so it usually boils down to the weather.

Zen ED1 or ED2 10x43 help on hunting bino

I just used the Zen 8x43 in the woods today hunting blacktail, and although I suspect the 7X36 would be a little better, the 8's were great. A couple of years ago we were spotting elk from about a half mile to two miles away and we were using 8X and 10X Nikon SE's. After trading back and...

    Top-3 binos Vs mid-priced binos

One more factor, at least for me, is that an alpha is every bit as easy to lose as a mid-range bino, and probably even more prone to be stolen. I had one pair of SE's stolen, and I'm glad they weren't swarovski's. I'm guessing the thieves at the airport are not as impressed with my Zen-Rays...

ZR 8x43 ed2 vs Nikon 8x32SE:a rough comparison

For yet another non-definitive comaprison, I actually prefer the ZR 8x43 to my SE's. I spent some time a few weeks ago at dusk and dawn trying to spot deer, and I switched back and forth and found that the ZR were brighter, and I thought the contrast was considerably better. I do like the feel...

    Revalations and the ZR binocular

I also don't know anyone here from Adam, but I agree completely with John Robinson. I read Steve's assesment of the Zen-Ray's and it was a contributing factor to me buying a pair. If I had thought that he was wrong, I would have posted my opinion. I now prefer them to my SE's. Starting a...

Zen Ray ED2 7x36 evaluations and review

You can have the issues that have ALREADY arisen with your 7x36's ZR and try to deal with their customer warranty department and I'll take the technical excellence and build quality of the Swarovski fully knowing that if I ever damage it through careless neglect they will rebuild them better...

    Leica, Swaro, Zeiss... Nikon?

"I have had the 8x32 Swarovski EL for a short time and sold them. I found them to have alot of optical shortcomings for me. " It's good for me to hear that, because I spend way too much money on optics and I need a good reason NOT to buy them. I've looked at them at the store, and they look...

    Leica, Swaro, Zeiss... Nikon?

In spite of my previous recommendation (an SE and a Zen) for one binocular with price being no object, for me it would be the Swaro 8x32 EL. I suspect others bins are better in some ways, but those feel so good in my hands that I could live with some minor optical shortcomings. My guess is...

    Leica, Swaro, Zeiss... Nikon?

I have the 8x32 LX the 8x32 SE and an 8x43 Zen Ray. On a recent trip to Costa Rica I used the SE and my wife used the LX, for no particular reason other than she liked the feel of the LX better. We traded after a day or so and I found that the SE was by far my favored binocular. It's hard to...
