Hooded Grebe and other Patagonian endemics

Steve, I’m guessing you want to ser Hooded Grebe, Magellanic Plover, Austral Rail. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not promoting myself but I think your best bet is to hire a guide. I’m saying this because the company that owns a lodge at the Strobel Plateu charges you 150 dollars just for picking you...

Birding sites within a day's travel of Buenos Aires

Indeed, Otamendi is Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park. Ceibas is another place you need to go. In case you want to hire a guide, I’ll go with Marcelo Gavensky from Natural Birding. I’ll be spending Christmas in BA. If you are there, we can do some birding and grab a beer

    Barbados shorebirds last weekend 2

I'll go for Hudsonian Godwit, 3 Stilt Sandpiper and 1 White-rumped. The last one because of the wings extending over the tail and the yellowish at the base of the beak

    New Diamondback spotting scopes

True, my bad. Just checked and the one I own is the 80mm. In my previous work, I used to use a Swarovski ATX and I have to admit that it was tough at the beggining when using this scope. Ultra lightweight gimbal head?

Michael, if you are willing to pay it, most of the RRS ball heads can handle your setup even though they are slightly lighter than your gimbal head. Have you seen the Acratech GP-SS ball head?

    Ultra lightweight gimbal head?

I Michael. I do think that a Gimbal for the R5 and the 100-500 is an overkill. There are some Carbon Fiber Gimbal Heads but with a good designed Ball Head you should be doing great. You will be carrying something smaller and lighter. Even though carbon fiber gimbal heads are lighter (half the...

    Just a sanderling? Almeria, Spain.

Joseph, yes that's a Sanderling. That interesting color is because it's molting to the breeding plumage.
