Suggestions for birding in County Sligo

I promised to get back to you, so here it is - turned out unexpectedly, but it was brilliant! Thanks again for all your help - the road trip for next year is already in the planning... https://www.birdforum.net/threads/eye-opener-in-ireland.414095/

    Eye opener in Ireland

I thought that my experience on a three day visit to Ireland last week might be interesting to relatively new birders, so here it is... I started birding about 4 years ago, and have been on an exponential enthusiasm curve ever since. It's basically been about collecting species, about the...

Comment by 'McHeath' in media 'Nuthatch'

Thank you all! This was the first sunny day after a rainy and cold second half of August; all the Nuthatches in the cemetery were singing and calling like mad, and this guy was repeatedly inspecting the nesting box on which he's perched. Think they'd all got their calendar mixed up and thought...

    Warbler? Cottbus, Germany

Describes one of the two songs perfectly, has often been compared to a sewing machine. They also have another quite different song - chiu-chiu-chiu-chiu, slightly descending in pitch; they'll often alternate between the two, and it's easy to believe that there are two separate species singing.

    Albino Pheasent? UK

That makes sense, I stand corrected, thanks!

    Albino Pheasent? UK

Looks more like a Photoshop job to me; wouldn't interference lines be perfectly parallel?

Two birds near Cottbus, Brandenburg, Germany

I'd also go for Tree Pipit; the markings on the breast would extend further down on a Meadow Pipit, instead of forming the discrete band shown here. Edit: see my photo here, this one was additionally identified by song: https://www.birdforum.net/gallery/tree-pipit.667092/

Can you add Black Swan to a UK List?

I check the German sightings daily on ornitho. de; a couple of days ago someone had proudly listed a sighting of two peacocks. Location: a zoo 😂

Suggestions for birding in County Sligo

Thanks again Sancho, that's all a great help! The book looks to be lovely and very informative; I'm going to have to get it and plan a longer Ireland trip (something I've been wanting to do for decades anyway). I'll be back on Sunday week and let you know how it went; as a country-bred but now...

Zitting Cisticola and a few others (the Zigzag Heron sounds fascinating), but I'm afraid I can't oblige: https://www.google.com/search?q=bird+beginning+with+z&oq=bird+beginning+with+z&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i19i22i30.17800j0j4&client=ms-android-huawei-rev1&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

Hey ho, here we are again at everybody's favourite letter! :) A young Corvus Corax, appropriately positioned at the centre of the "x" in the pylon structure ... When it took off, it was therefore even kind of starting with an "x" - will that do? 😇

    ID water mammal Cheshire

Thanks to all! I'd go for a Brown Rat myself, but a guy on another forum who has seen hundreds of mink is convinced that this is also one... guess that the guy who took the picture will just have to get back there with plenty of time and a better camera.
