Thanks Gretchen, it is the first one I have seen up here, and this was much bigger than a sparrow. I hope I see another as well, the trees are so dense up here in summer that it is hard to spot anything.
Hi everyone thanks for the responses - I am very new at this, so really have no idea what I should be looking for, or what is important for identification. There are definitely pink feathers near the tail, this pic shows that a bit more clearly. Sorry for not posting this initially.

I spotted this bird today, can someone confirm if it is a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker? I could not see if he had a red crest, by the time I figured out what the noise was he had moved up the tree, but I believe that an adult female has a white crest.

Larry, I am in Jilin Province, very close to North Korea and when I check on Birdlife international http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/speciesfactsheet.php?id=6655 the Daurian does seem to be more likely based on where we are. Is the Guldenstadt's also known as the White-winged Redstart? If so...
