    Little Owls - Flitcham?

Looking for advice as an out-of-area birder. Do little owls still show from the hide at Abbey Farm in Flitcham? I think I heard that they had moved from the "usual" tree last year. Any advice very welcome!

    Yorkshire Birding

Hi Linda I went up to Bempton Cliffs for a bit and then went on to North Cave. Nothing out of the ordinary but good to be out in the very fresh air! Owen

    Yorkshire Birding

Redstart and Pied Fly were showing very well in Strid Woods this morning, in spite of (or maybe because of) the shocking weather. The Pied Flys were very busy backwards and forward to the nest boxes. One Wood Warbler also put on a superb show for us at the Cavendish Pavilion end of the wood.

    Norfolk birding

Can anyone tell me if the Bean Geese are around Cantley / Buckenham this year? I haven't seen too many reports and am beginning to put together my plans for a long weekend visit to Norfolk in February. I would really appreciate any guidance that anyone can offer.

Is access to the reserve available outside the normal opening times? I quite fancy trying for this bird, but I can't get there during the normal day.

Slightly out of Yorkshire - Upper Teesdale

Apologies for not being quite in Yorkshire (although it might have been in old money - I am sure someone will be able to tell me) but upper Teesdale around High and Low Force was superb on Saturday. Walking along the riverbank trail there were loads of redstart and quite a few spotted flycatcher...

Dawn Chorus at Bolton Abbey 2013

We were at Bolton Abbey last Saturday and we did find wood warblers close to Harrison's Ford but they were not singing aside from tiny snippets. There seemed to be a few redstart about.

    Wheldrake

I seem to think that the LDV is a good location for whimbrel during their spring migration. Are there any about yet, does anyone know?

    Black Grouse Meet March 2013

We got 11 males on Saturday (20th April) in the freezing wind. Four males at a different location later in the day.

    Leeds Birdwatching Groups

The Swilly Ings birders are a very friendly bunch and I have always found them more than happy to help out with any ID questions. There is normally someone in the hide and it is well worth paying the £5 annual membership. The Leeds RSPB group are also a great crowd and the programme of coach...

    Black Grouse Meet March 2013

We got a pair of Ring Ouzel that seemed to be nest-building on 22nd April last year. Regarding big sparrowhawks, the day we went last year was not what you would call a "raptor day" thanks to the rain, but I have seen them in this location the year prior. As someone else has commented, there...

    Norfolk birding

I can't tell you how pleased I am to see this post. I was the only one in my group of five that saw this bird at Salthouse today and I couldn't relocate it after it dived. I was beginning to think I was imagining things!

    First Tyke Meet of 2013

I was at North Duffield yesterday in the snow - some good birds about, including a lot of farmland birds nearer to Bubwith. One thing to note is that the farthest hide (Garganey) is closed at the moment due to flooding.

Can any of the Swillington regulars comment on the condition of Fleet Lane at the moment? Is it passable in a normal family car?
