    Gull ID?

Hello, can anyone ID this gull please, I'm thinking possible Caspian but I'm the first to admit I struggle with gulls. I appreciate quality isn't great, phone scoped at distance in poor light. It was taken last week at a South Pennine reservoir, West Yorks, UK I've had to put a link to youtube...

    Long or Short-eared

Here's a shot of a Short-eared owl I took in the same pose as the one I've linked to Flickr, apart from the white on the trailing edge of the wing, I'm struggling to tell the difference in wing pattern between the two. Thanks for bearing with me on this :)

I'm not disagreeing :) I have a lot of respect for you birders that can ID at a glance from distance, I'm just struggling to see it. Edit just to add they are both my pictures :)

    Long or Short-eared

Long or Short-eared Owl Taken yesterday evening in the South Pennines in falling snow. I first thought this was a Shorty but looking at it on the monitor I'm unsure. The only way I know how to ID between the two is eye colour, poor light, heavy crop means the eyes aren't clear enough. I have...

    Yorkshire Birding

So an hour after tea last night and another 3 this morning between 08.00 and 11.00 but no Hoopoe for me :( From talking to birders up there, its inconclusive as to whether it was spotted yesterday, last definite confirmed sighting was Sunday afternoon, maybe its gone on its way?? On the plus...

    Yorkshire Birding

I missed it yesterday morning by 20 seconds....I kid you not! lol I had no idea where Potato Lane was either but drove round and asked a few locals, wasn't long before someone put me right. If you find the pub with the strange name of Wills O'Nats, opposite there is two dirt track lanes, if...
