Early October near Hiroshima castle, Japan Just want to verify that this is Japanese paradise flycatcher because of lack of eye ring. Juvenile perhaps?

    Arctic tern? Lancashire ,UK

Yes, Preston docks. Black terns flew off seconds before I could photograph them. Arctic tern is a good consolation though. Is the all-red beak the only way to ID?

    Arctic tern? Lancashire ,UK

Found this tern on 12th May 2016 resting amongst a common tern colony. Didn't associate with the pairs of nesting common terns. Shorter red beak with no black tip. Shorter legs too. Is this an Arctic tern?

    Lancashire moth caterpillar ID please

Not surprised that nobody could ID them, they moulted again a couple of days later and now look like this. I now think they are Buff Ermine moths

I found 4 of these on my sunflowers this week. Closest guess I can make is Muslin moth?

    Brazil ID please

It wasn't a dedicated birding trip but 2 early morning trips to the Jardim Botanico were a blissful escape from Rio. The channel-billed toucan, slaty-breasted wood rail and rusty-margined guans are still the specialty birds of the gardens. Capuchin monkeys and marmosets added to the enjoyment of...

    Brazil ID please

Thanks guys, I had the raptor as Rufous-thighed and just wanted to confirm. Disappointed that the finch looks like immature saffron as I wanted to add another species to my trip list. :( Thanks again

    Brazil ID please

I have a good idea of the first one and no idea on the second one. The raptor photo was taken in Rio de Janerio botanic gardens last month. The yellow finch? was taken in Buzios (100 miles up the coast from Rio).

10/7/12 at home I'd been waiting for any decent weather to get the chance to clean, dry and waterproof our tent. I managed to do so on Tuesday. Whilst I was doing so, a Hobby flew over. I got good views as the noisy, mobbing swallows attracted my attention. My pair of spotted flycatchers...
