I have also been thinking about a trip to Oaxaca--and driving down from Ohio. Are you driving there?

Life List Expansion by Best Area

Wow, I thought I was adventuresome when I drove from Ohio to Ciudad Valles, Mexico, in my minivan, camping as well. Good for you. About car rental, another reason I don't rent is that I like to stay at a place for 3-4 days, so I don't really need a car then. And if you don't rent one at the...

Life List Expansion by Best Area

pbjosh, Thanks for taking the time to figure out what I was asking. You summed it up perfectly when you said "What you're asking for, I agree would be awesome. Something like a per-hotspot needs list. Then from that they could make a tool that would show you the hotspots within a region or...

Life List Expansion by Best Area

There is probably a simple solution to this question, but I've been struggling with it for years. My life list is on ebird, and I can click Target birds and enter a country (Costa Rica, i.e.) in order to see how many birds are in that country that I need for my life list. But I can't figure...

    Nicaragua bird books

Bird Guidebooks Just thought I'd offer my two cents worth. I love, love, love the Van Perlo book! It has ALL the birds of Mexico and Central America, and in back there are distribution maps, and an index not only in English but in Spanish, as well as an index with scientific names. Also, it...

    Birding Southern Mexico April 2014

Well...pardon my posting a month after your trip! I misread your posting date. Ah well, maybe the reply will help others who are going. Will you be posting a trip report? I wonder how things have changed since I was there.

    Birding Southern Mexico April 2014

Birded Yucatan several years ago. Here are my comments about the botanical gardens in an email I sent home: I decided I wouldn't stay the second night since I'd found few birds in Cancun. I caught an early bus to Puerto Morelos with my suitcase in tow (no easy matter) and chair atop it...

Please advise on computer bird listing tools

I'm not technologically blessed, just as a starting point. What I hope to be able to do is to input my life list into some program that could then tell me the best places to go to fill in the gaps, i.e., which location in Central America would provide the best chance of seeing the most birds...

Driving from Ohio to Central America

I've been wanting to do a trip like this for a long time, driving from Ohio through Mexico and into Central America, stopping at birding sites all along the way. I've also considered flying into Mexico (Cancun?) and taking a bus from there to birding sites in Central America. I think the trip...

North Peru Spring 2012 for Marvelous Spatuletail etc.

Have you come up with a budget for independent travel for a certain number of days? Or do you know about what the K. tour would cost? Would you want to get a rental car or use the bus? I just returned from Costa Rica (independent trip) and went to Ecuador the same way last year. I'm interested.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Costa Rica

I think I enjoyed the challenge of the public transportation. I did see the river in the distance--just never up close! At the fruit feeders were: Clay-colored Thrush, Blue-gray Tanager, and Red-legged Honeycreeper. The rest were seen in the trees (lots of Masked and Black-crowned Tityras).

This is a link to a thread where I attached a Costa Rica Trip Report and the Bird List for anyone who might be interested. I traveled independently and used public transportation: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=216624

Costa Rica Trip Report and Bird List, Oct. 27-Nov. 10, 2011 I just spent some time on the "help" line and I think I've got it now. I attached the trip report and then the bird list. Hope it works.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Costa Rica

I know how to cut and paste my word document, but I don't know how to convert it to PDF or how to post it as an attachment. Cutting and pasting my bird list doesn't work, because the columns are all out of order. Sorry to be such a bother. I do know how to add an attachment to an email!

Just returned from 2 weeks in Costa Rica

OK, I've completed my trip report on a word document (bird list on another word document) but now I can't figure out how I should post it. I used to use the RealTravel website for trip reports with photos, but they no longer accept them. I couldn't access the blog feature here so I then saw a...
