    Least Surveyed Areas of Australia

So, the Cairns area clearly has lots of the tropical endemics/migrants and is clearly well surveyed. However, are there parts of the area which still get relatively few visits?

    Least Known Birds of Australia

Allen, thanks. Have you seen it? If so, where? If not, where would you go to look for them? Thanks, will do some reading on them in the meantime.

    Least Known Birds of Australia

I'd appreciate reports of people looking for the BBBQ and NOT finding it. Where did you look? Why did you look there? Do you think its worth looking again? Thanks, Kai

    Least Known Birds of Australia

Thanks for the sarcasm, always good for motivation. So, tell me why you would nominate those two as targets. What specifically about them and their biology is unknown? Thanks, Kai

    Least Known Birds of Australia

Can you tell me who the hardcore birders are there that have/are looking for them? I'd love to be in touch with them. I guess everything is difficult to find, until its found, right? Or, it does not exist in which case it won't be found. Nonetheless, one does not find things without looking...

Daniel, Thanks for the excellent spreadsheet. Must have taken 100s of hours to put together. Do you do it for fun? Kai

    Nominations for Least Studied Areas

Actually, I am not working with an "advisor". I am not a PhD student, but an independent researcher. Can do the literature trawl no problem, but was hoping some here have done some thinking about it already and might be able to summarise some of it. Thanks though. Do you have an island group...

    Least Known Birds of Australia

Did some reading on the Buff Breasted. Surprised that more is not known about it. The habitat, for a relatively unknown species, is quite accessible. The reports and recovery plan suggest that the atherton tableland may contain suitable habitat, but the birds have not been observed there. Does...

    Least Known Birds of Australia

I knew about the Night Parrot, but not the Buff-breasted Button Quail. I'll have to look it up. I was thinking of taking a week to try to locate one of the least known species to locate and observe it--see if I could bring back any information which might be helpful to the continued conservation...

    Guadalcanal Moustached Kingfisher

Thanks for the note, but I want to reply to the following: Not at all sure I agree with you, as others have noted above. The regulations may be there IN MOST PLACES, but enforcement is another thing entirely. Therefore self-regulation by collecting agencies ought to have long been a very...

    Guadalcanal Moustached Kingfisher

I think it might for the reason that 90% still eat birds and probably a similar percentage still respect the scientific community's efforts. It certainly is much better than having no scientific justification for the need and sustainability of the work, right?

    Least Surveyed Areas of Australia

I'd love to know which areas of Australia have had the least amount of birders and professional ornithologists visit them. Are there places where relatively few have done any serious observation? If so, what are those places? Why do you think few people get there?

    Least Known Birds of Australia

I would appreciate it if everyone here might give their opinion about the three least known birds which regularly occur in Australia. Which are they? What about each needs to be studied and known better? (range, diet, vocalisations, behaviour, predators, nesting, habitat, etc).

    Again, very helpful, thanks.
