Many thanks for all the relies. I do get sent some odd things. This bird dropped a primary feather which looks good in the photograph. On balance it looks like a poor quantity image with data processing anomalies but genuine.

Observations recording database template for Microsoft Access

I use a MS database and it does everything that I want it to. It can run target lists and display sightings, trips and list in the way I want. It has reduced key strokes and sticky fields that aid inputting along with a few validation checks. Mainly used for the Western Palearctic and British...

    Observing 'sensitive species'

I think that in general people are not aware of what their physical presance has a birds or should I say on breeding birds, having spend time with both Monty's and Hen Harriers (at a distance of 500 m under and schedule one license) the birds were fully aware of my presence and reacted by...

    Bird Diary

I personally mourn the fact that "Birding World" - UK monthly magazine is no more. I had them properly bound and use them as a year book. So its great to look back and compare years. I like real physical books. It's amazing what you forget. Good birding. Rich B

    Bird Diary

In the past I used a physical journal however with digital photograph I find it easier to use a computer. I also use a bespoke dbase recording systems. So I have my foot in both camps. When I get more time I will revert the a physical journal. I am a book lover anyway.

    The Demise of Birding Software

I would be great to collect all the wants that very one has and write a spec based on that and then get someone to create / write it. It would need to be supported by someone. As birders we are all different. Some are local birders, some are out and out twitchers, others bird the WP or the...

    The Demise of Birding Software

I do not like most of the web based recording software. I ended up writing my own data-base which based on "easy to use" and interfaced with a cheap bit of mapping software. The fact that I created it myself means that it be changed and modified as I needs change. The one thing that complicates...
