Returning to birds after a 35-year break. Unlike then, not interested in listing individual birds, but very interested in community behaviors and interactions. Also, different is that I find I am more interested in recording birds' sounds than in visual observation. Doing most of my recording early morning to capture the dawn chorus. Started recording with Merlin Bird ID on an iPhone 8+, have moved to a Sennheiser ME66 and Zoom F3, a matched pair of Clippys, and K1 in a parabolic reflector. Located in north central Louisiana and doing most of my recording in my own backyard. Have the usual suspects: Northern Mockingbirds, Brown Thrashers, Northern Cardinals, Caroline Wrens, Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmouses (Titmice?), Blue Jays, American Crows, Mississippi Kites, Common Nighthawks, Pine Warblers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Downy Woodpeckers, Gray Catbirds, Eastern Phoebe, Wood Thrushes, Blue Gray Gnatcatchers, American Robins, House Finches - all common in my area.
