I thought it might be a Dunlin, only thing putting me off is the head colouring, might just be the light though. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a Little Stint though.

Not too sure at all about this but will be very interested in more experienced birders comments.

    Red Kite Question

Rich, check out Clatteringshaws Loch and Loch Ken In D&G for more Red Kites. I am right next door to D&G but it is only in the last 6 years that I have spent a lot more time there. Some really good birding spots.

    Red Kite Question

Thanks for that Rich. I was quite surprised at the size of the bird I had always assumed that they were quite small. Guess I should pay more attention to my field guides.

    Red Kite Question

While driving along the A75 (a very busy road) a Red Kite flew up and out from the grass verge right in front of me. Quite amazing. Question.... is it common for these birds to hunt so close to busy traffic?

Many thanks for sharing your views on this subject. It would appear that there are several factors to consider with bird migration. Thanks Robert

    Why do only some migrate?

Since starting this hobby 3 years ago I have increasingly become more interested in bird migration. I read recently that only some Fieldfares move south to the U.K. in winter. Questions.... Why do only some migrate? and is this common with most migratory birds. Hope this is not a daft question...
