Looking for the Best Binos for the money

In general I would look for yesterday's top level in very good condition. You often will get excellent craftsmanship, robustness, repairability and good performance at a fraction of the fancy current top end. Like some of those Trinovids up to older Victories, top Nikons and such. Many of the...

Car binos - what are your criteria?

I did not mean to offend people that leave their bins in their cars I just referred to what I am doing for comparison.

Car binos - what are your criteria?

I don't leave any valuables in the car. I deliberately pick a "good" binocular with me for a trip depending on the weather and use, like long walk or not or far away ships to look for or similar. And I am happy to carry this all the time.

Everything you always wanted to know about IS binoculars but were afraid to ask (Q&A)

For me a big part of the fascination of binoculars is the "pure optics - no battery" part. I am totally respecting the fact that smart, stabilised binoculars might be more usable in certain situations but I prefer to not have to worry about batteries and maybe even have to carry spare ones. I...

Lens Covers - Do You Use Them?

I only fix one side of the ocular lens cover to the lanyard so I never lose it but it doesn't get in my way when looking through it.

Lens Covers - Do You Use Them?

I use them. Absolutely helpful on damp or rainy days and under wet trees and such. I am always surprised how easy to use some covers are while others require actual attention to put them on and off properly. My Steiners have the best covers and my Zeiss the trickiest to use ones as they are...

    Nobilem Super

I think Zeiss West never had the power or intentions to interfere with tariffs or the finance ministry.

    Nobilem Super

Very nice. Thanks for showing it. I like these landmark designs and I like them being valued today as well. Imagine this perfection in 8x60?

    country of origin info?

I just oppose these fictional marketing stories actively misleading the consumer about fabrication to justify higher prices. But this might be the way modern brand marketing is done anyway. Below the line it feels like regardless of brands more and more will come from the same global...

    country of origin info?

The country of manufacture very much defines the labour cost of the product. It is a relevant information for any customer to define if the price of a product is warranted. Some cheapo made high price product would be a bad combination. Having said that lower labor cost countries can built very...

how to assess optical quality of binoculars

If you have a chance, look at stars on a clear night. Maybe comparing your binocular to another binocular you might have. You will see how bright it is and how wide around you you can see by angle and field of view and if the stars -especially the ones at the edges of your field of view- are...

About The British Military's Binoculars Used In Post War?

If I had the choice between a traditional high quality Hensoldt Fero and some mass produced plastic Steiner I'd pick the first one as well. And being repairman I'd hate this 1970s throw away concept making my job redundant even more.

    Top Porro Prism Bins?

I don't dispute the importance of facts. But any binocular seems to be a combination of facts and even compromises. This is why I would argue, the personal impression, experience and opinion are the final deciding factor - aside from the funds available of course. So I try to share my views and...

About The British Military's Binoculars Used In Post War?

I own a pair of Steiner Military/Marine 7x50 Commander since a very long time and they are not as bad as claimed. Optically they are certainly not alpha class for sure but they were never meant to be. They were purpose built: Affordable, as good as needed, expendable binoculars made for the then...

    Top Porro Prism Bins?

I have a Zeiss Classic 7x50 porro (IF) and it is very nice. So nice even my girlfriend suddenly wants to look through this one. She refrained from using all my other binoculars I typically carry on long walks before. For me this one is a very good overall package, good field of view, razor...
