    Ultravid HD+'s made in Wetzlar

FYI, they clearly used to mark their Midland, Ontario-manufactured lenses and camera bodies as Made in Canada; and there is no difference in quality whatsoever, so it's interesting how times have changed. (In fact I have gone for the Canadian ones in preference as it is a bit of history now and...

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

Thanks, Mike! Nice to hear. The physicists just don't understand how sharp can be rounded; they obviously don't have the eyesight to appreciate traditional binoculars... ;-) I will let you know how the outdoor viewing goes. I bet your 12s are astounding: that resolution and colour at larger...

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

I will take a look later today. I like the way that with Leica eyecups you can set them just either side of the clickstop to give you extra positions to play with. I tend only to pull them out to the first click but with the 8x50 I need to go a bit further out, into the middle of the next gap.

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

Hi John, Canip and Chuck will have longer experience and more to draw on of course. In comparison I've already established my own feeling about the point you raise regarding weight and bulk: the 7x42 UV feels more like a pocket bino being very compact for its own format and easy to handle. I...

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

Thanks, Chuck; that's certainly what I am hoping. I was thinking since yesterday that there is something appealing about the narrower view too especially as it is an easy view. Your response to Andreas's first post played a big part in what was quite an impulse purchase, and no regrets! I was...

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

Well, Andreas, you have started something here, with help from CharleyBird and his link to Ace Optics, Canip, Mike F, Andy and others. Ace is an excellent shop in my experience; I have been doing business with them since the late 90s and their lockdown delivery service is rapid, with free...

    Swarovski 8x42 SLC ?

Hi John (your quote in post no.10 from a previous post), You probably had this in mind when posting, as you have discussed serial numbers from various runs before: my SLC 7x42 unit is the same last one you observed here: 'The original x42 models were discontinued in 2010. The last observed...

    Swarovski EL W B 8x32 - Flare

HI GTom, Post no. 24, your last paragraph... I don't know but that idea is a very attractive one. It sounds a fine business model and should result in considerable goodwill value coming from the customers of the products whose sales the firm is competing for. And even if it is coincidence...

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

Andy, Good to have your experience behind the comparisons. Thanks for summarizing all the main viewing and handling details. Tom

    Swarovski EL W B 8x32 - Flare

Hello GrampaTom, That makes sense to me. Just to emphasize that the quoted last sentence in my post was actually a definite vote for Swarovski, with the point you comment on as a minor side thought. I'm happy with the overall price as I know now from my brief experience of two years with the...

Where is the Leica Ultravid 8x50 HD-Plus?

Hello Andreas and other enthusiasts, Interesting thread. I have had my 8x56 T*FL with me for a time now and marvelled at the easy view and to my eyes exceptional performance in the central view and just recently also been enjoying the 7x42 UVHD Plus. (For too long I had been using the latter...

    Swarovski EL W B 8x32 - Flare

A fair response from Swarovski would be my take and they didn't use it as an opportunity to say in their defence how for very many the 8x32 EL is an absolute top gun and their modern favourite. I love mine; it gives a crystalline clarity, as the phrase goes, with superb resolution over the...

    Swarovski 8x42 SLC ?

John, your posts and 'replies to yourself' if you see what I mean are very interesting, as I have been using my late autumn acquisition — SLC 7x42 Neu from a BirdForum member — during the lockdown and though I like it a lot and don't have the SLC 8x42 with lengthened focus (i.e.2013 'dinosaur...

    SLC 7x42 arriving today

MBB, Justin will be able to answer you better. I can't access my SV or SLC at the moment and it's hard enough to be sure when using them let alone from memory. I just couldn't say. Glare though annoying is probably just a fact of life; I know that most of the time it doesn't affect my viewing...

BITFEOV for my new SLC 8x42

JG, That's how I felt when I first looked through mine - a lucky new purchase sight unseen. Focuser a bit rough and they replaced the unit immediately by courier. Good service leaves me enjoying the memory every time I pick it up. Tom
