Thank you Frogfish and Mike
That's very kind you.
Yes indeed Mike, southern Yunnan is rich in just-in-China species, but the Gaoligongshan and western Yunnan are much richer and a far better experience in many ways.
Best regards from a ridiculously-polluted Beijing (the attached screen grab...
Thought that there may be some interest in my records from a birding trip to Xishuangbanna, southern Yunnan recently.
(There are some other of my China-birding reports as well as my survey of the birds of the Wenyu River, Beijing on the same page):

Took the public bus from Shanghai to Yancheng last Wednesday.
Spent two days in the reserve area, and then caught the train to Nanjing, where I birded Purple Mountain for two days.
My trip report and photos are here:

Just back to Beijing following a four day trip to Jiangsu province (2 days at Yancheng and 2 days on Purple Mountain in Nanjing).
Even managed to find a bird I'd never seen before.
My trip report (with lots of photos) is here:

Thank you Mike
I've sometimes wondered what delights Lantau might offer.
Great start.
And looking forward to reading about your discoveries.
Cheers.

You can see some overwhelmingly sad things here at times, but I take much heart from the young, local birders and their determination to make things a lot beter than they are presently.
