Wasn't there once a North Sea bird club for birders working on the rigs. I seem to recall reading in Birdwatching back in the eighties about the club, and some of the bird records particularly during spring and autumn migration.
Not much difference in bird numbers on Swan pool or FML this lunchtime.
Goldeneyes still on Swan pool.
10 Herring Gulls
26 Shovelers on FML
23 Pochards on FML
More people than birds today 🤬
Cold an frosty earlier this morning.....- 4 degrees at 07.30am. Forge mill lake partly frozen.
3 Little Egrets
2 Goldeneye on Swan pool
1 Water Rail in the marsh
32 RN Parakeets from roost and around the RSPB centre.
1 Green Woodpecker
A few Redwings about.
Great White Egret on FML at 9am, just along from the hide near the viewing platform. Then flew low over the trees and looked to be heading towards the Newton meadows.
Also 25 Shovelers on FML, and 164 Coot on Swan pool.
Birdtrack (and the WMBC) also requires additional details ie description, call etc for records of Marsh Tit if seen in the West Midlands county. Considering how often the bird is recorded in the valley, and the amount of suitable habitat available across the county in general it seems a bit...
Early start Swan pool and Hill Top checking for Ring Ouzels but very quiet migration wise. Plenty of Chiffchaffs about, Redpolls, Blackcap. Only thing of note on Swan pool was the GW Egret.
Loads of Woodpigeons, particularly in the paddocks, and 26 Stock Doves on Swan pool meadow at 7am.
