Here is a male Blue-Throated. Haven't seen the female yet.

Good crop at Beatty' Guest Ranch this year

Coffee your analysis is right on. 2007 was a very light year. It hit me harder because 2006 was the heaviest I had seen. What I can say about 2007 is I was able to get my best shots of the Male Magnificent. There used to be a smaller observation spot further up on the hill from the present...

    Hummingbird ID

I still think it's a female Anna. Albeit a dirty one. Looks like it had been in a dust storm. Ruled out female Rufous. The spots and bill look like Anna. Could also be a juvenile.

    Hummingbirds Of North America

The first I would have guessed female Anna. Second Male Rufous, I wouldn't know if it was an Allen or not. Third easy - Male Costas Fourth easy - Male Broad-Billed Fifth I would have had to look it up in a guide. Very good Michael. I've seen your site. You have a great collection.

    Hummingbird ID

Maybe a female Anna. Too hard to tell, need to see the otherside and back to be sure. I don't think it's a female Black-chinned(Picture attached).

Good crop at Beatty' Guest Ranch this year

The above pictures were taken with a D300 @ iso 400 and SB800 or SB900as fill. I used a 70-300 at 300 most of the time. I was only there for one day this year and didn't want to carry extra. Most of feeders are behind the fence but they come over the fence and land in the bushes or trees. I...

Good crop at Beatty' Guest Ranch this year

That is true. Because the feeders have a 2 foot fence between you and them, they don't usually allow some one to cross over the fence to set up multiple lights. However they have not bothered me about using on camera flash when I've been there. Since there seems be visitors throughout the day...

Good crop at Beatty' Guest Ranch this year

Thank you. Thank you Lisa. It was my 4th year in a row to visit. 2006 was the best because it was a bumper crop year and I'd never seen so many species at one time. 2007 was a let down because the numbers were down and I was expecting the same, but I did get some great shots of the Male Mag...

Good crop at Beatty' Guest Ranch this year

Good crop at Beatty's Guest Ranch this year I was able to get some good shots this year. I also was able to add a new one. A Berylline and caught a Juvenile Mag in the process. Berylline ; Juvenile Mag ; White-Eared ; Blue-Throated ; Juvenile Male Violet-Crowned

Hummer ID help, Please...South Central Washington State, USA

I would agree 100% with your ID. This is a female Costas taken at Desert Museum near Tucson. They allowed me to use flash since they were removing the eggs because they had too much inbreeding.

    Favourite Hummingbird

Favorite Hummingbirds I haven't had the privilege to see HB's outside of the US. SO for now the White-Earred, Magnificent and Broad-Billed are my favorites.

Questions about migration thru the SW USA

My brother and I will be visiting this Friday in the mountains of Sierra Vista. Our contact has said there are more this year then last. They said there were 4 Berylinnes. That's one I haven't gotten yet. Hoping to get some better White-Earred and Violet-Crowned shots this year.
