Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 vs. 8x42 for birding

Today I made the decision to make use of the open purchase on Conquest HD 8x32. A decision that hurts for this is an excellent pair of binoculars. Perfect in the hand. Super sharp on axis, in my eyes rivalling NL Pure 8x42. But when I get used to and learn to appreciate a relaxed image with long...

FOV - beyond what value is too much?

I am not sure what you mean is not true. 7 and 10x42 in same series use the same objective lens, while Nikon SE series uses the same eyepieces. So in the first case the magnification difference is because of ocular focal length difference, and in the second case it's because of objective lens...

FOV - beyond what value is too much?

I know that eye relief of a certain eyepiece design is directly related to the focal length. But is really the field of view as well? I guess 8x32 and 8x42 use different eyepiece design. We know that the field stop sets the limit for TFOV, I guess that's the reason that for example 10x42 always...

FOV - beyond what value is too much?

I wonder about the reason to that almost all 8x32 have wider FOV than 8x42 in same series. And as you say NL Pure is an exception. But does the 8x32 have less glare than the 8x42? One reason to that NL Pure 8x32 has narrower FOV than the 8x42 can also be that Swarovski chose not to sacrifice eye...

Why buy SFL 8x40 and not Conquest 8x32?

I think one reason is better eye relief. Together with larger exit pupil 8x40 is surely more comfortable. But it's twice the price...

Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 vs. 8x42 for birding

These numbers look good! Still I am not sure they are comparable in practise. In many cases the stated ER has to be taken with a pinch of salt. But I want to try out other models in the NL Pure line.

Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 vs. 8x42 for birding

Yes, NL Pure is in another league when it comes to contrast and flat field. Still I have no problem with the smaller sweet spot with Conquests. The optical "problem" with 8x32 is because of the shorter objective lens focal length, which requires a shorter eyepiece focal length for a certain...

Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 vs. 8x42 for birding

I received Conquest HD 8x32 yesterday. My impression from the try in the store was the same when it comes to size and weight compared to the 8x42. It's a clear advantage to 8x32. I see the entire FOV with eyeglasses. Compared to 5+mm exit pupil there is a certain difference when it comes to eye...

I will give a report later today!

    8x42 NL image circle

I cannot comment about this because I have slightly squinting eyes and don't experience stereoscopic viewing.

Swarovski 12x50 EL versus 15x56 SLC

These 54 and 56mm models look BULKY! As I can understand based on my experience, I would find them too bulky and heavy for continious handhold use. SV 50mm is big and heavy enough.

Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 vs. 8x42 for birding

I recently placed an order for Conquest HD 8x32. It will be interesting to see how I perceive them side by side compared to the 8x42.

Swarovski Curio 7x21 versus Victory 8x25 and Ultravid 8x20

Especially with a pocket binocular a brighter image is appreciated, as well as more stable image. And a lightweight pocket model is less stable than a fullsized so 7x21 is a very good idea. Not to forget the wider TFOV and longer ER.

Swarovski Curio 7x21 versus Victory 8x25 and Ultravid 8x20

I am not either a fan of dual hing design. It makes it narrower when folded but instead thicker. Is it really much better?

Maven B1.2 10x42 depth of field

Justified question by Harber8. I wondered about this myself, because I know DOF is related to the magnification and I read some have claimed that two binoculars of same configuration still have different DOF.
