Jeez, Jos, after weeks of doom scrolling through the pandemic your trip report has given me heart! I'd seen high latitude ranges for leps in Canada but they never seemed real. Now I know they are, and I know a lot more about looking for them.
Thanks much for such an engaging write-up,
Swiffly
Kaylie, just looking at old posts and saw this again. Did you do this trip? Find a companion? Run into the pandemic? Would you do it again?
Thx, I love reading trip reports.
Don't mean to hijack the thread but soap made from 100% beef tallow is God's own answer to chiggers, in my experience. Lather up and let it dry without rinsing. I don't even own any other kind of soap any more.
This is an interesting thread, made me think back. I was 20 the first time I drove across the US by myself. I wasn't scared to go but I got scared a few times along the way. Camping alone one night it got so bad I packed up at 3 in the morning and just drove until I was comfortable again.

Thanks much Trystan, gives me a better idea of the experience. I agree with the "paying a little more" for the convenience idea. Here's a link for Brenda if she hasn't tracked it down already:

As I understand it their package cost includes a trip to the Blue Mountains for high elevation birds and they think the rest of the endemics can be found on their property. An email to clarify it would be smart.
My general approach is pretty casual, including renting a car for myself and...
Hey Brenda, I would be good for something like that! Though I am an older man. I've looked at this tour for years,

But I'm not committed to it. I've not researched any other tour operators in Jamaica, would consider anything else.
Ponant's L'Austral is repositioning Callao-Valparaiso 1 Nov 2019-5 Nov 2019. It is very inexpensive and no single supplement, but there are no land stops.

Wildwings has done this route in the past, with land...
OP, I've thought about Jamaica for years, in particular Green Castle Estate.
The one week all inclusive tour is $2000 but they say you can do whatever you want; a day pass is $30 and the least expensive room is $99/night self cater. I'd love to get with some other people and do this reasonably...
Thanks Andre, both posts are very helpful.
The Niederhorn web site has a couple photos of Ibex about two meters from a group of children! It is always good to have a back up plan.
I forgot all about Alpine Marmot. I've seen all six Marmots in North America, that is an easy start on the nine...
Hi all, I'm a long time birder but new to Switzerland and this forum. I will be visiting my gf in Klosters and would love to see Ibex, and start learning the birds of Switzerland.
In the US, schools let out in early June and millions of families go on vacation. I wouldn't dream of going to...
