Marne - Belval / Lac du Der

Hi all, Am travelling down to Marne later this year, and am looking to sense-check the information I have found before travelling down there this coming mid-May. This will be our first overseas dedicated wildlife trip so hoping to get a decent selection of non-UK species - would particularly...

    New Forest Sites

Thanks guys - much appreciated! Planning on making this an all-day thing. Driving down from Guildford for sunrise (ish) and hoping to stick it out long enough for said Hawfinches at Blackwater late afternoon. Cheers, Tom

    New Forest Sites

Hi all, I know this is a similar-ish thread to some previous ones (I'm sorry!) which, while very useful, don't quite answer my question. Here goes: Got a couple of days free in the coming couple of weeks which I thought I'd use to try and add Lesser-spotted Woodpecker, Hawfinch, Firecrest...

What was your first bird(s) of 2019?

Mine was the Magpie that was on my lawn when I got up. Happy 2019 birding everyone!

    Yorkshire Birding

Currently on holiday in Wharfedale (Hebden to be precise) - such a superb area for even casual birding; managed excellent views of Kingfisher, Dipper, Goosander, Marsh Tit, Mandarin, Wheatear etc. all on strolls from the cottage. Wonderful! Would love a spot or two of advice re Ring Ouzels...

    Dinant area

Hi peeps, Will have a free day in Brussels in early March, and am looking to spend this down in Dinant. Details on bird life is seemingly very lacking on Google so am wondering if anybody has any local knowledge they would be willing to share? I won't have access to a car (using the train) so...

    Dark Green or High Brown?

Yuck. I'm sure this has been asked many times on here, but please can somebody put a firm ID on these frits? These were taken back in 2008 (give or take a year) at Heddon's Mouth, Devon. Not good photos as they are stills from a camcorder video. Have spent about a month looking at them and...

    Your top ten Birding memories......

Nice thread. From what I can remember off the top of my head (in no particular order): Ospreys – Florida I had seen them before in Scotland, but was amazed at how common these were in Florida - every other telegraph post at the roadside contained an Osprey nest or perch, but the highlight was...

    Gull ID please!

Hi all Took this pic in Venice last week. I believe it is a Yellow-Legged Gull, but my Gull skills are rubbish. Any help appreciated! Ta Tom

    Target bird species for 2014

Golden Oriole would be great, assuming they return to their UK breeding spot. Otherwise Hawfinch, my utter bogey bird, 2 or 3 of which are seen every winter (more or less) in my local woods.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

As for UK Species, Common Redstart would you believe, having failed for the last 15-odd years. As for non-UK species, Bee-eater in Hungary in August.

    Garden birds have diminished worryingly!

Hello all! I have just signed up, having used these forums as a resource for a while now. I live on the outskirts of Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK, within walking distance of Hockley Woods, Belfairs Woods and Grove Woods. We have lived in this suburban house for 12 years, during which time I have...
