New Guinea and some sourrounding islands.
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
Two subspecies are recognized:
- A. b. affinis:
- Arfak Mountains (north-western New Guinea)
- A. b. terborghi:
- Eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea (Karimui basin region)
It was formerly considered conspecific with Barred Owlet-nightjar.
Habitat
Moist forests.
