Identification

27 cm (10½ in)

  • Yellow head and neck
  • Greenish on nape and upper breast
  • Orangey-red lower breast and belly
  • Green thighs and vent

Distribution

South America: found in interior Brazil (Maranhão), northern Paraguay and occasionally eastern Bolivia (some sources say this is a Brazilian endemic).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Has formerly been included in the genus Amazona

Habitat

Cerrado (wooded grassland) and caatinga (thorn scrub) habitat.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet fruit and seeds. They are particularly fond of mangoes.
