Distribution

Malaysia and Philippines to coastal, northern Australia and southwestern Oceania.

Taxonomy

A monotypic species. Some authorities recognize up to four different subspecies1.
Placed in genus Porzana by IOC.

Habitat

Tropical mangrove forests.
