Pakistan and India.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species¹; however, some authorities recognize an additional subspecies testacea².

Subspecies

Clements recognizes these subspecies[1]:

• A. p. phoenicura: Northeast Pakistan through north and central India
• A. p. testacea: southern India

Habitat

Open stony country and low rocky hills.
