Distribution

North-eastern Siberia to western Alaska; winters southern Alaska to northern California.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in the genus Chen.

Habitat

Coastal tundra, rocky coastlines and reservoirs.

Behaviour

Breeding

They are ground nesters; the clutch consists of 3–7 eggs.
