Identification
- Short but noticeable ear tufts
- Upperside brownish to greyish-brown, with white spots on scapulars
- Underside rufous, brown and/or grey, with stripes and vermiculations
- Short supercilium from bill to above middle of eye
- Eyes yellow
- Partly feathers legs
Distribution
Australasia: Banggai Islands (Peleng and Labobo)
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Banggai Scops Owl was formerly included in Sulawesi Scops Owl.
Habitat
Forest, both primary and secondary, from sea level to at least 900 m asl.
Behaviour
Food is expected to include insects and other small animals.
Vocalisation
A fast trill lasting about one second, seemingly with the highest pitch in the middle.
