Distribution

Found on Simeulue Island, Mentawi Islands and Nias Island of Sumatra, Indonesia.

Taxonomy

Formerly considered conspecific with Ruddy Cuckoo-Dove and Enggano Cuckoo-Dove.
Three subspecies recognized:

• M. m. hypopercna:

• Simeulue Island (off northwest Sumatra)

• M. m. elassa:

• Mentawi Islands (Siberut, Sipura and Pagai)

• M. m. modiglianii:

• Nias Island (off western Sumatra)
