Identification

A medium-sized Fulvetta (16.5cm):

• Crown and mantle grey, brownish tinge on head
• Blackish line, starting as supercilium and trailing back as lateral crown-stripe into nape
• Rufescent on upperparts
• Whitish below
• Indistinctive eyering

Distribution

Found in Vietnam, Laos, E Cambodia and SE Thailand.
Common in parts of its range.¹

Taxonomy

Clements² accepts two subspecies:

• A. p. grotei in C and S Laos, E Cambodia and Vietnam
• A. p. eremita in SE Thailand

Was formerly considered conspecific with the similar Mountain Fulvetta. In Vietnam separated by habitat, Mountain Fulvetta is found above 900m, Black-browed Fulvetta in the lowland forests.

Habitat

Broadleaf evergreen forest, semi-evergreen forest and secondary forest. ¹

Behaviour

Feeds on insects.
Usually seen in paris or small groups of up to 7 birds. Often together with other species.
The nest is a small cup made of dead leaves and moss, placed in a bush, sapling or in fern. Lays 2 eggs.
Resident species.¹
