[edit] Identification

Strong and straight red bill with only a little black at tip and golden-green tail characteristic of both sexes. Male has blue throat, female has pale throat sprinkled with green.

Central and South America
Central America: Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia

Moist lowland forest. Dry forest, citrus orchard and vegetated grounds.

Feeds from flowers of bushes and scrub mostly in context of forest and edges but sometimes in gap areas. Comes to feeders in Costa Rica but not as strongly represented at feeders as some other hummers.
