Identification

Bill moderately short, straight, and rather thick. Shining green above; crown and gorget glittering green; breast shining green; belly buff thickly disked green; under wing coverts cinnamon buff (conspicuous in flight); central tail feathers bronze, rest creamy buff tipped bronze.
Sexes similar.

Distribution

In Andes from northwest Venezuela south to northern 1/3 of Ecuador.

There are 2 subspecies^[1]:

• B. f. flavescens:

• Andes of Colombia and western Venezuela (Mérida)

• B. f. tinochlora:

• Andes of south-western Colombia and adjacent north-western Ecuador

Habitat

Humid forest and forest edge, usually 1400-2800m above sea levels.

Behaviour

Not strongly territorial, several can be found with other hummers at flowering trees. Has a habit of holding the wings raised a short while after landing.
