Identification
18 cm
- Dark brown
- White lores, throat and belly
- Brown breast-band
Distribution
South America: found on the western slope of Central Andes of Colombia (Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío).
Taxonomy
Two subspecies recognized:
- G. m. gilesi in the northern Central Andes of Colombia (Antioquia); known from a single 19th century specimen, probably extinct
- G. m. milleri in the central portion of the Central Andes of Colombia (Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, and Tolima)
Habitat
Areas that mimic regrowth of disturbed areas in forest including understory in plantations and second growth. Fround from 1800 - 3150 m asl.
Behaviour
Feeds on or close to the ground, mostly in dense vegetation. Will sometimes come to areas with human activity for food. There have also been reports of attending army ant swarms.
